Strolling the streets around the 1924 Courthouse Square under the sparkle of thousands of twinkling lights is the perfect way to make Christmas memories with family, friends, and neighbors.

Enjoy performances from local school choirs, dance groups, and a special karate demonstration. Crossing off items on your holiday shopping list is a pleasure at Downtown Newton’s retailers, and our restaurants, eateries, tap rooms, and wine bar are ready to welcome you before, during, and after the festivities.

And, if we're lucky, we'll get a special visit from Santa Claus himself to hear everyone’s Christmas wishes and pose for a complimentary photo with you and your loved ones.

Festivities include bounce houses, letters for Santa, hot cocoa and s'mores, and much more!

Tonight’s performers: Trial by Fire — Seasoned, high-energy performers bringing you all of Journey’s greatest hits.

Food trucks and food vendors will be ready to serve at 5:00 pm, the band will begin at 6:00 pm and continue until 8:30 pm

Join us for another opportunity to showcase your craft! Each Thursday evening from September 14 to October 26, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., vendors from all over Newton will set up on the East A Street Sidewalk to provide Downtown Newton visitors the opportunity to support local artists!

There is no fee for 2023 vendors, but vendor spaces are limited! Register with the link above and guarantee your spot today!

Vendors will be curated by the Downtown Newton Development Association (DNDA). Vendor types may include but are not limited to woodworking, jewelry, pottery, painting, knitting, metal works, crafts, and toys.

    • Submit three photos (one must show your booth set-up, and two must show top-selling items listed above).

    • Display an N.C. Sellers Certificate Registration.

    • Offer only handmade, original items for sale (no kit-made items).

National Night Out

The Newton Police Department, and Catawba County law enforcement agencies, invite you to National Night Out at Southside Park from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1

  • National Night Out is a community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. Envisioned as an opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances, participants in Newton’s National Night Out celebration will include the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, State Highway Patrol, firefighters, military members, and other first responders. Newton Parks and Recreation Department and Downtown Newton Development Association are supporting the event.

    Attendees will have the opportunity to view demonstrations and get up close with life-saving equipment such as police patrol cars, fire engines, and a medical helicopter. There will also be a bounce house and yard games for children. Hot dogs, snacks, and drinks will be provided. Representatives from participating agencies will be available to share information, answer questions, and continue strengthening the community relationships that benefit Newton and Catawba County in countless ways.

    Together, we can work to make Newton a safer, more caring place.

Council Members Ed Sain will introduce the night’s performers: Chairmen of the Board — a Juneteenth celebration featuring the legends of Soul music.
